Amy Carlson
The family was born in Glen Ellyn,
Illinois, Amy Carlson spent most of her childhood in the Chicago area. Amy was
a part of her family in Chicago while she was in junior high school. Her
parents, Bob, and Barb taught at the American School in the Middle East. Amy is
the sister Betsy, Lori, and brother Joe. Amy has travelled all over Europe with
her family , and on her own. Because her parents were teachers who taught, they
could enjoy every summer with each other, traveling and camping across the
United States. In fact, they have been camping in every state, with the
exception of Alaska. Amy was also in Rwanda after the war in 1994 to help in
relief efforts. At a young age, Amy showed artistic talent acting in school
productions and winning contests for writing. In high school she was a dazzling
athlete who was a part of the first ever 3200 meter relay in Illinois girls
track. Following an injury, she returned to college and was a part of the
stage, beginning with Lanford Wilson's "Fifth Of July” and later directing
Wallace Shawn's "Aunt Da and Lemon”. Amy has graduated from Knox College
in Galesburg (Illinois) in the year of cum laude, with an A.A. East Asian
history with a focus in Theater. After graduation, she relocated to Chicago and
pursued a degree in Improv at the Improv Olympic. She also studied acting at
The Actor's Center. Following her graduation, she was offered a permanent on
the soap drama Another World (1964). In the category of "Outstanding
supporting actress in an Daytime Drama Series", she was nominated for
Daytime Emmy Awards. Her most memorable roles included those of strong women
like Alex Taylor (1999), Maggie Pistone (2000), Katie Owen (2003), and Linda
Reagan (2003). Carlson lives in New York City, with Syd Butler who is her
husband and the bassist for Les Savy Fav. She is also the proprietor of
Frenchkiss Records, an independent music label, and works as a co-owner. Amy is
still working on film and writing.
